Visakhapatnam Central Jail Launches IT-Based Skill Training Program for Inmates to Enhance Rehabilitation Opportunities

The Andhra Pradesh Prisons Department, in collaboration with the Skill Development Institute (SDI), has launched an IT-based skill development course titled “Office Assistant” at the Visakhapatnam Central Jail. This initiative, inaugurated by Visakhapatnam District Collector M. Abhishikth Kishore, is designed to equip inmates with essential IT and office management skills, promoting their rehabilitation and reintegration into society.

The inaugural batch includes 30 inmates, primarily remand prisoners, with a focus on young individuals involved in NDPS-related cases. The two-month course will provide practical training in various aspects, including computer applications, office administration, digital communication, and employability skills. Successful participants will receive a certification from SDI Visakhapatnam, enhancing their digital literacy and workplace readiness.

Collector Kishore highlighted the significance of such reform-oriented programs, emphasizing their potential impact on inmates’ lives by creating constructive opportunities for the future. His engagement with inmates during the launch underlines a commitment to fostering an environment conducive to skill development, ultimately improving their employment prospects post-release.
