Notably, Sebi completed investigations in 338 cases, showcasing an efficient resolution of cases and highlighting its commitment to maintaining market integrity.

Fraudulent trading practices, a significant focus area for Sebi, saw a rise in scrutiny with 121 cases initiated, an increase from 61 in the previous year. Particularly concerning are the 72 cases linked to price and volume manipulation, which affect market fairness, up from 61 the prior fiscal year. Furthermore, the regulator’s actions in front-running, which accounts for 49 initiated investigations, suggest a strategic focus on safeguarding investor interests against unethical pre-trading practices.

Insider trading remains a critical focus, with Sebi handling 224 cases in this category and completing 204 investigations, demonstrating its determination to enhance transparency and trust in the markets. Cases related to financial statement fraud saw 57 investigations initiated, with 40 completed, underscoring a vigilant approach towards corporate governance. The regulatory actions are supported by comprehensive evidence-gathering processes, including market surveillance and analysis of various data sources, ensuring that the investigative framework is both thorough and efficient.

In conjunction with these investigations, Sebi and the stock exchanges increased surveillance over market intermediaries, conducting over 900 inspections. The combination of thematic and comprehensive inspections across numerous brokers highlights the regulator’s intent to maintain stringent oversight within the industry. This proactive regulatory environment not only aims to deter illicit activities but also fosters a culture of compliance, crucial for sustaining investor confidence in the market.
