K. Madhu Steps Down as Chairperson of Kerala State Film Development Corporation

Film director K. Madhu has officially resigned from his position as chairperson of the Kerala State Film Development Corporation (KSFDC), following a directive from the previous Left Democratic Front (LDF) government that called for political appointees to vacate their roles after the shift in the State administration. His resignation was submitted to the Secretary of the Cultural Affairs Department, indicating a formal acknowledgment of the new political landscape in Kerala.

The changes in the leadership of cultural institutions have been widespread since the new government took office. Notable figures such as K. Satchidanandan and Ashokan Charuvil, who held prominent roles at the Kerala Sahitya Akademi, have also stepped down in response to the political transition. This wave of resignations underscores the traditional practice within Kerala’s political framework where appointees affiliated with the outgoing regime tend to resign when a new government assumes control.

Similarly, significant figures within the Kerala State Chalachitra Academy, including chairperson Resul Pookutty and vice-chairperson Kukku Parameswaran, have followed suit by resigning from their posts. This mass resignation of cultural leaders reflects a broader trend in administrative turnover associated with changes in political power, signalling a potential shift in the direction and focus of cultural policies under the current government.
