Indian Diplomat Discovered Dead at Mission in Chattogram, Bangladesh.
An official of the Indian High Commission in Chattogram, Bangladesh, identified as Naren Dhar, was found dead inside the mission premises on May 20, 2026. Dhar, an Assistant Protocol Officer, was discovered in front of a bathroom door on the second floor of the old visa centre building. The police reported that he was in his late 30s, and the circumstances surrounding his death initially suggested a potential cardiac arrest.
According to police spokesman Aminur Rashid, authorities responded promptly to the scene and have sent Dhar’s body to Chattogram Medical College Hospital for an autopsy. The investigation is ongoing, with the post-mortem report expected to determine the exact cause of death. As a foreign national associated with a diplomatic mission, formal procedures were followed in handling the situation.
Currently, there has been no official response from the Indian High Commission in Dhaka or the Assistant High Commission in Chattogram regarding the incident. Local law enforcement has stated that further details will be provided pending the results of the autopsy and any additional findings from their investigation.
