AM Green Partners with VOC Port Authority to Launch Green Ammonia Bunkering Hub in Thoothukudi
AM Green, in collaboration with the VO Chidambaranar Port Authority (VOCPA), has initiated a significant project aimed at establishing a green ammonia marine bunkering facility in Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu. The memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed on May 28 outlines plans to develop a capacity of up to 200 kilotons per annum (KTPA) of green ammonia by 2029-30, with an estimated investment of ₹2,000 crore. This partnership combines AM Green’s production capabilities with VOCPA’s expertise in handling liquid ammonia, thereby positioning VOC Port as a strategic hub for green ammonia production and bunkering, with a potential capacity scaling to 500 KTPA by 2035, dependent on market demand.
For the common citizen, this initiative signifies a progressive step towards cleaner marine fuels, which could reduce the carbon footprint associated with shipping and logistics.
