US Fed Moves Ignite Oil Fluctuations, Challenging Bullion Amid Heightened West Asia Tensions, Say Analysts
Gold and silver markets are poised for a pivotal week, driven by key economic indicators and geopolitical developments. Analysts emphasize that the Federal Reserve’s impending interest rate decision, combined with the evolving US-Iran conflict and fluctuations in oil prices, will significantly influence the trajectory of these precious metals. Upcoming economic releases, including US Consumer Confidence figures, Core Personal Consumption Expenditures (PCE) inflation data, and jobless claims, are set to inform market sentiment as investors assess their implications for inflation and interest rates.
In recent domestic trading, gold futures for August delivery experienced a notable rise of Rs 2,200, or 1.6%, closing at Rs 1.43 lakh per 10 grams. Silver futures for September delivery also showed strength, climbing Rs 5,735, or 2.7%, to reach Rs 2.22 lakh per kilogram on the Multi Commodity Exchange. Globally, Comex gold futures advanced by USD 52, or 1.3%, settling at USD 4,070.8 per ounce, while silver prices surged nearly 5% to USD 58.90 per ounce. Despite sharp price fluctuations throughout the week—largely triggered by Brent crude oil briefly surpassing the USD 100-per-barrel mark—both gold and silver managed to recover towards week-end, showcasing resilience amid volatility.
Strategists indicate that precious metals are likely to trade within a defined range in the near term, particularly as market participants remain vigilant regarding developments in the Iran region and their implications for oil supply chains. Support for gold remains bolstered by continued accumulation by China’s central bank, which reinforces the official sector’s demand for bullion as a stabilizing factor. Additionally, traders are keeping a close watch on shipping activities through the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz, as any disruptions could further impact market dynamics.
In light of these factors, attention will also be directed towards remarks from Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Warsh post-policy announcement, which may provide crucial insights into the future trajectory of US interest rates and their expected impact on bullion prices. As the market anticipates a range-bound trade for gold and silver, the interplay between geopolitical tensions and macroeconomic data remains a key determinant for investor sentiment and pricing in the upcoming week.
