UltraTech’s Robust Q1 Performance Paves the Way for FY27 Expansion with a Strategic Focus on Cables Business.
UltraTech Cement has demonstrated a strong performance in the June 2026 quarter, achieving record volume, revenue, and EBITDA numbers. As the largest cement producer in India, it delivered results aligned with market expectations, indicating robust operational capabilities despite facing potential headwinds from seasonal impacts and increased input costs driven by ongoing geopolitical tensions in West Asia. The company’s outlook remains positive, aiming for double-digit volume growth in FY27, which could be bolstered by the forthcoming launch of its cables and wires business in the third quarter of FY27, representing a significant new growth avenue.
In the near term, however, volume growth may be constrained, particularly in the September quarter due to the seasonal monsoon impact. The company will also feel the escalating pressure from higher fuel costs associated with external conflicts, which will adversely affect profitability metrics. In the recent June quarter, EBITDA margin contracted by 110 basis points sequentially and 70 basis points year-on-year, resulting in an EBITDA margin of 20.9%. Expectations for the September quarter indicate further declines in EBITDA per tonne, which could fall by ₹130-140 from ₹1,214 recorded in June, highlighting the challenges ahead in maintaining profitability amid rising costs.
Despite these challenges, some positive indicators contribute to a balanced risk perspective for investors. Cement prices have shown resilience, particularly in the East and South regions of India, and are expected to remain stable throughout the monsoon season. This stability in pricing could mitigate some margin pressures and support the company’s financial resilience. Furthermore, UltraTech’s lower valuation relative to its long-term average multiples suggests a potential cushion against significant downside, providing a more favorable investment outlook amidst current market uncertainties.
With approximately ₹888 crore already invested in the cables and wires project, and key approvals in place, the company is well-positioned to capitalize on this diversification strategy. As UltraTech Cement navigates these transitional challenges, its operational agility and strategic growth initiatives will be vital to sustaining momentum and counteracting external pressures over the coming quarters.
