Tragic Roof Collapse in Vijayapura Claims Life of Local Woman.

A 55-year-old woman, Mahadevi Varad, died when the roof of her dilapidated house collapsed in Nidgundi, Vijayapura district, exacerbated by heavy rains in the area a week prior. The incident occurred while she was asleep in the house, leading to her being trapped under substantial debris. Her husband, Shivanand Varad, escaped unharmed as he was sleeping outside at the time of the collapse.

Shivanand Varad and neighbors attempted to remove the debris to rescue Mahadevi and transport her to the hospital. Unfortunately, she succumbed to her injuries during the journey to medical assistance. The tragedy highlights the precarious condition of aging infrastructure in the region, particularly in the wake of adverse weather conditions.

Authorities, including police and revenue officials, conducted an on-site assessment following the incident. A case has been registered at the Nidgundi Police Station to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collapse and potential negligence related to building maintenance and safety protocols in the area.
