Top Investors, Led by Prashant Jain, Secure ₹1,655 Crore Stake in SBI Funds Management Ahead of IPO
India’s largest asset management company, SBI Funds Management, is set to make its debut in the public stock market with a significant Rs 11,692.91-crore initial public offering (IPO) scheduled to open for subscription on July 14. Ahead of the IPO, the company successfully raised Rs 1,655 crore through a pre-IPO placement, where it sold 2.88 crore equity shares to 30 esteemed institutional investors. The pre-IPO share sale saw participation from notable investors such as PI Opportunities Fund-II, Akash Manek Bhanshali, and 3P India Equity Fund I, indicating strong institutional backing, which is a positive signal for potential investors in the IPO market.
The IPO comes with a price band set at Rs 545 to Rs 574 per share, and the offer will consist entirely of an Offer for Sale (OFS) of 20.37 crore equity shares. The shares are anticipated to begin trading on the stock exchanges on July 21, adding to the excitement around this large offering. The minimum application size for retail investors is set at 26 shares, translating to an investment of approximately Rs 14,924 at the upper price band. This pricing strategy and the participation of marquee institutional investors have generated a favorable sentiment in the grey market, which often acts as a barometer for future IPO performance.
For Indian investors, the IPO of SBI Funds Management is particularly significant given the company’s dominant position in the asset management sector, managing around Rs 16.32 lakh crore in assets. Its successful pre-IPO placement has created optimism about strong demand for its shares in the public offering. Given the current trends in the Indian capital markets, this IPO is expected to attract significant attention and could set a precedent for future offerings in the sector, particularly as the mutual fund industry continues to grow rapidly in India.
