Samrat Choudhary’s First Month in Power: A New Chapter for Bihar?
Samrat Choudhary has implemented a series of significant initiatives aligned with former Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s policies, emphasizing development and a stringent approach to corruption and crime following his oath as Chief Minister on April 15. A major highlight includes the preparation of a blueprint for 11 satellite townships across 10 districts, aimed at alleviating urban pressure by providing planned residential colonies and commercial areas. Additionally, the “Police Didi Scheme” has been launched to enhance the safety of women and students, deploying women police officers in educational zones to curb harassment.
The introduction of the Sahyog Ki Triveni initiative seeks to bolster governance and public accountability through a multi-tiered support system that includes a helpline and regular camps to address citizen grievances. With a commitment to resolving complaints within a 30-day timeline, the government has emphasized the need for accountability among officials. Another pivotal decision has been the allocation of ₹800 crore for transforming district schools and the establishment of new degree colleges, creating thousands of new educational positions.
Choudhary’s administration has also prioritized local contractors for civil projects valued at up to ₹50 crore, promoting local employment. A paperless e-registration system for land registration aims to enhance transparency and reduce corruption, particularly benefiting elderly citizens with home registration services. Furthermore, a renewed focus on a zero-tolerance policy towards crime has been instituted, evident through reported police encounters. These measures collectively indicate a significant policy shift aimed at sustainable development and improved public safety in Bihar.
