PM Modi Touches Down in Netherlands for Key Meetings on Second Leg of Five-Nation Tour.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in the Netherlands on May 15, 2026, as part of a five-nation tour, aiming to enhance bilateral relations with Dutch Prime Minister Rob Jetten. The discussions will focus on vital sectors such as trade, technology, defence, and renewable energy. The visit is timely, coinciding with the revitalization of the India-E.U. Free Trade Agreement, which is set to significantly boost trade relations, especially in emerging fields like semiconductors and clean energy.
During his visit, PM Modi will engage with both Prime Minister Jetten and the Dutch royal family, emphasizing the strategic dimensions of India-Netherlands partnerships that have flourished through sustained diplomatic efforts. The trip also allows for interaction with prominent Dutch business leaders, underlining India’s position as a key trading partner in Europe, with bilateral trade reaching approximately $27.8 billion in 2024-25 and the Netherlands standing as India’s fourth-largest investor, with over $55 billion in cumulative foreign direct investment.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) highlighted that this visit offers a significant opportunity to strengthen the multifaceted India-Netherlands partnership, particularly with regards to the substantial Indian diaspora in the Netherlands. With over 90,000 individuals of Indian origin and around 3,500 Indian students currently enrolled in Dutch universities, the people-to-people ties between the nations remain a cornerstone of their bilateral relationship, further underpinning the ongoing segments of cooperation in trade, education, and technology.
