Pathankot Man Arrested for Exporting Security Forces’ CCTV Footage to Pakistan-Based Operatives, Say Police

Baljit Singh, a resident of Pathankot, Punjab, has been arrested by police on charges of espionage for Pakistan-based handlers. Authorities allege that Singh had installed an internet-based CCTV camera at a shop near a bridge on the National Highway-44, reportedly to monitor the movement of Indian military and paramilitary forces. Investigators revealed that he was transmitting the live feed to contacts in Pakistan, further complicating the security situation in the region.

During police interrogation, Singh admitted to setting up the surveillance equipment in January and acknowledged receiving instructions from an unidentified individual located in Dubai. Reports indicate that he was compensated with ₹40,000 for his activities, raising concerns about the organized nature of the espionage efforts. Police have since recovered the CCTV camera from his possession, which has been described as a crucial piece of evidence in the case.

This incident follows a trend of increasing espionage activities linked to Pakistan, as police previously dismantled two additional espionage modules that utilized advanced technology to relay sensitive military information. The use of high-tech, China-made solar-powered CCTV cameras has been noted, underscoring the sophisticated methods employed by these espionage networks. Security agencies are on high alert as investigations continue and the implications of such activities on national security become clearer.
