NEET-UG 2026: Key Suspect Arrested in Nashik Amid Examination Controversy

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has taken into custody a suspect linked to the NEET-UG 2026 paper leak, which resulted in the cancellation of the examination held on May 12, 2026. The arrest occurred following a request from the Rajasthan Police, highlighting the inter-state collaboration in addressing the allegations surrounding this significant breach. The suspect, attempting to evade capture by altering his appearance, was ultimately tracked down through technical evidence and police surveillance.

This incident marks the second occurrence of a NEET question paper leak, with a notable prior incident in 2024. The ongoing investigations have intensified scrutiny on systemic vulnerabilities and the impact of such leaks on the academic futures of approximately 22 lakh students nationwide, including over 2.25 lakh from Maharashtra alone. The crisis has prompted fierce criticism from political leaders, particularly from the opposition, emphasizing the need for robust legislative measures to combat exam fraud and secure the integrity of academic assessments.

Political figures like NCP-SP leader Rohit Pawar have underscored the urgent necessity for accountability, suggesting that the current educational laws have failed to prevent such incidents. With allegations of systemic corruption and complicity within educational institutions being raised, calls for a thorough CBI investigation have escalated. The demand for the Education Minister’s resignation reflects the gravity of the situation and the widespread concern over the lasting repercussions of this scandal on student prospects and trust in the educational framework.
