Madhya Pradesh HC Revokes Anticipatory Bail for Retired Judge Giribala Singh in Twisha Sharma Death Case.

The Madhya Pradesh High Court has quashed the anticipatory bail granted to retired Bhopal district judge Giribala Singh in the Twisha Sharma dowry harassment and death case. This decision overturned a May 15 order from a local Bhopal court, which had previously granted bail just hours after an FIR was filed against her and her son, Samarth Singh, Twisha’s husband. Justice Devnarayan Mishra’s ruling came after hearing petitions from Twisha’s father and the State Government challenging the bail, emphasizing concerns about how it was obtained and the trial court’s failure to consider the victim’s family’s allegations.

During proceedings, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta highlighted discrepancies in the trial court’s decision, arguing that it ignored vital prosecution evidence and allowed the accused to make public statements undermining the investigation. The High Court’s observations noted that multiple injuries found on Twisha’s body were inconsistent with the defense’s claims, indicating a more complex scenario surrounding her death. The court pointed out that several injuries were antemortem, raising doubts about the circumstances leading to Twisha’s demise.

The CBI, having taken over the investigation, is anticipated to arrest Ms. Singh soon, as their counsel indicated that her custodial interrogation is necessary. The agency’s involvement has heightened scrutiny due to alleged connections between the accused and influential figures, compounded by non-cooperation in the ongoing investigation. The recent transfer of custody of Samarth Singh to the CBI further underscores the developing nature of this case, with authorities actively investigating the circumstances and potential wrongdoing surrounding Twisha Sharma’s death.
