Kozhikode Native Set for Release from Saudi Jail Following Completion of Legal Formalities.

Abdul Rahim’s 20-year prison term in Saudi Arabia concludes on May 19, 2026. Initially sentenced to death in 2006 for the murder of a 14-year-old differently abled boy, Rahim asserted that the incident was accidental. However, the legal perspective presented by the employer’s family significantly influenced the case’s outcome.

A pivotal moment occurred in May 2024 when the Malayali community successfully raised ₹35 crore as blood money, which led the victim’s family to retract their demand for the death penalty. The Saudi court subsequently annulled the death sentence in July 2024, allowing for a reconsideration of the case under different legal statutes.

In May 2025, the Riyadh Criminal Court sentenced Rahim to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment under the Public Rights Act, effectively sealing his fate until now. With his term coming to an end, family members anticipate his imminent release, subject to the completion of necessary legal procedures.
