KC General Hospital in Bengaluru Launches Palliative Care Unit Amid Plans for Statewide Expansion
A dedicated palliative care unit has been inaugurated at K.C. General Hospital in Malleswaram, Bengaluru, enhancing support for patients with advanced and life-limiting illnesses. This facility offers a range of services including inpatient care, outpatient consultations, day-care services, and home-based care. The inauguration took place on May 5, 2026, signaling a significant development in healthcare services aimed at improving the quality of life for patients in serious medical conditions.
The establishment of the palliative care unit is a result of a partnership between Saranam India, a non-profit organization specializing in palliative care, and the State Health Department, formalized through a three-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed in April 2026. This collaboration aims to create a comprehensive palliative care program within the hospital, designed to cater to the diverse needs of patients and their families, thereby addressing a crucial gap in the healthcare system.
This initiative underscores the government’s commitment to enhancing healthcare accessibility and quality, particularly for vulnerable populations facing severe health challenges. By providing structured support and diverse care options, the palliative care unit at K.C. General Hospital is expected to make a meaningful impact in the lives of many patients, ensuring they receive compassionate care tailored to their specific needs.
