India’s IPO Potential Soars to Rs 3.86 Lakh Crore, Tripling 2026 Fundraising Totals, Says Report

India’s primary market is gearing up for an impressive surge in initial public offerings (IPOs), with a projected pipeline of approximately Rs 3.86 lakh crore slated for the second half of 2026. According to the Association of Investment Bankers of India (AIBI), this anticipated influx is over three times the Rs 1.10 lakh crore raised through 84 mainboard IPOs in the earlier part of the year. The significant rise in potential IPOs highlights a robust investor sentiment and a healthy interest from companies looking to enter the public markets, signaling a vibrant IPO landscape ahead.

AIBI’s Mid-Term White Paper indicates that around 130 companies have secured approvals from the Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi), while an additional 75 are awaiting approval at the Draft Red Herring Prospectus (DRHP) stage. The estimated Rs 2.43 lakh crore worth of IPOs approved and Rs 1.44 lakh crore pending clearance emphasize the expanding role of IPOs in capital formation, further diversified across various company sizes and sectors. The enthusiasm from both companies and investors points towards a more sustainable and inclusive IPO environment.

This expanding IPO market is indicative of a broader transition for Indian investors, shifting from episodic fundraising cycles to a more structured approach for capital generation. With average subscription levels soaring—49 times among Qualified Institutional Buyers (QIBs) and 26 times for retail investors—there is substantial opportunity for diverse investor categories. As the market matures, it underscores the importance of quality issuers and effective capital allocation, which will ultimately shape the investment landscape in India moving forward.
