Heatwave Halts Indrakeeladri Ghat Road Repairs in Vijayawada

Rehabilitation works on the Indrakeeladri Ghat Road, which leads to the Kanaka Durga temple, have been halted due to extreme weather conditions and a severe heatwave affecting the region. The project, a collaboration between the Endowments Department and the Roads & Buildings (R&B) Department, began on May 26, aiming to enhance the road from the tollgate to the hilltop before the initial completion deadline of June 12. However, current weather patterns have prompted a reconsideration of the work schedule.

The R&B Sub-Division Deputy Executive Engineer communicated with temple authorities, detailing that ongoing heatwave conditions render it unsuitable for field workers to continue repairs. The high temperatures pose risks for handling bitumen and chemical-based materials, increasing the likelihood of cracks and other damage to the road surface. This technical concern has led to a suspension of the permanent rehabilitation activities, ensuring that repairs do not compromise road integrity.

In light of these developments, the R&B Department has advised temple authorities to adjust the work timeline until weather conditions improve. Temporary measures will be implemented to facilitate regular vehicular access for devotees, with trucks allowed on the Ghat Road starting May 29. Additionally, officials assured the temple administration that updates regarding the revised schedule for permanent modernization efforts would be communicated once favorable weather conditions prevail.
