Goldman Sachs Invests in Shiprocket’s Market Debut, Acquiring Over 40 Lakh Shares

On August 19, Shiprocket made a notable debut on the stock exchanges, with Goldman Sachs FDS Goldman Sachs India EQ Portfolio acquiring 40.24 lakh shares at Rs 131 each, amounting to a transaction value of approximately Rs 52.71 crore. This acquisition follows an earlier investment during the IPO’s anchor allocation, where Goldman Sachs purchased 36.07 lakh shares at Rs 97, totaling around Rs 35 crore. Shiprocket’s IPO raised Rs 1,617.48 crore, priced at Rs 97 per share, and the stock’s opening at Rs 131 represented a substantial 35% premium to its issue price.

Following its listing, Shiprocket exhibited robust market performance, reaching an intraday high of Rs 156 which marked a 19% increase from its initial listing price, before closing at Rs 143.10—an impressive 47.53% gain from its IPO price. Analysts have projected a positive long-term outlook for Shiprocket, attributing this optimism to its end-to-end technology platform and diverse merchant offerings. The company’s presence in logistics, fulfilment, direct commerce, and cross-border segments further augments its value proposition in an increasingly competitive e-commerce landscape.

Investment strategists are recommending a mix of profit-taking and long-term holding strategies for investors. Those who obtained shares at allotment are advised to consider booking partial profits while maintaining a longer-term view on the stock’s growth potential. Conversely, non-allottees are encouraged to monitor price corrections for possible entry points, with specific suggestions to establish stop-loss measures around Rs 110. This dual approach reflects the expected volatility inherent to newly listed stocks while also emphasizing the strong fundamentals that could drive future value appreciation for investors in Shiprocket.
