Five Arrested Following Gunfire Erupting from Land Dispute in Dharwad

The Hubballi-Dharwad Police have arrested five individuals following a violent clash over a land dispute in Tadasinakoppa, resulting in a shooting incident. The altercation erupted when a group claimed ownership of farmland, leading to objections from local residents who asserted their claim to the land. The confrontation escalated to gunfire, injuring a local youth, Vittal, who is currently hospitalized with a bullet wound in his leg.

Police Commissioner N. Shashikumar confirmed that the case has been registered under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. The arrested individuals include Philomina Pal, Praveen Sutar, Inderpal, Benjamin, and Vishal, while an additional suspect, Sunder Pal, is currently at large. Investigators are examining various accounts and video footage of the event to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the dispute and shooting.

Preliminary investigations have uncovered discrepancies in land records and revealed that some involved have prior criminal records. Authorities are also looking into the status of Sunder Pal’s firearms license. The police have confiscated both a pistol and a revolver, along with a multi-utility vehicle, as part of their ongoing investigation.
