BC Hostels Shine as Leading Welfare Accommodations in Andhra Pradesh
The Backward Classes Welfare Hostels in Andhra Pradesh have achieved a leading position among welfare hostels in the state, boasting a satisfaction rate of 78.20%, as revealed by the government’s Interactive Voice Response System (IVRS) survey. This notable performance, announced by BC Welfare Minister S. Savitha, reflects the effective measures taken by the coalition government to enhance educational support, infrastructure, and student welfare. Significant efforts included clearing a pending diet bill of ₹110 crore and timely management of diet and cosmetic charges.
Over the past 23 months, the government has invested more than ₹100 crore in repairing hostel buildings and upgrading facilities. Key improvements such as the installation of reverse osmosis (RO) plants, inverters, mosquito screens, and sanitation enhancements have greatly uplifted the living conditions for students. Furthermore, the introduction of digital learning centers has played a critical role in fostering a conducive educational environment. The implementation of advanced technological solutions, such as the Face Recognition System (FRS) for attendance, has reportedly saved over ₹6 crore annually by optimizing resource allocation and monitoring efficiency.
Academically, the impact of these improvements is evident, with BC hostel students recording an impressive 85.99% pass percentage in the recent Class 10 examinations. The launch of the HPTS mobile application has further strengthened oversight by enabling officials to monitor menu adherence, sanitation, drinking water availability, and overall hostel maintenance through daily photo updates. These comprehensive efforts indicate a robust commitment to enhancing the educational landscape for students in welfare hostels across Andhra Pradesh.
