Ananya Birla’s Svatantra Microfin Seeks Rs 3,000 Crore through Initial Public Offering

The initial public offering (IPO) from Svatantra Microfin, one of India’s leading microfinance institutions, has garnered attention with a substantial proposal of Rs 3,000 crore. This IPO seeks to raise Rs 1,500 crore through a fresh share issue, while an additional Rs 1,500 crore will be an offer for sale (OFS) from existing shareholders, including prominent investors like Advent International and Multiples. The draft prospectus recently filed with the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) shows that these investors are looking to reduce their stakes, with Advent paring about 70% of its holdings.

Svatantra Microfin, established by Ananya Birla, is making its move in a buoyant market for microfinance institutions, as it becomes the second NBFC-MFI to seek an IPO this year following Arohan Financial Services. The company has shown significant growth, with assets under management (AUM) reaching Rs 21,093 crore as of March 31, 2026. Additionally, its market share has improved considerably, increasing from 3.26% two years ago to 6.37%. Such growth is expected to be bolstered by the raised capital, aimed at enhancing its tier I capital base for future expansion and meeting regulatory requirements.

For Indian investors, the listing of Svatantra Microfin represents an opportunity to tap into the rapidly growing microfinance sector, which has been gaining traction amid increasing demand for financial inclusion. The positive sentiment in the grey market suggests a favorable reception towards this IPO, presuming that market conditions remain stable. For those looking to diversify their investments within India’s burgeoning financial services landscape, this IPO could be an appealing proposition, particularly given the company’s strategic growth initiatives and the backing of reputable investors.
