Enumeration Phase of SIR Launches in Four States, Marking a Key Milestone in Data Collection Efforts.
The enumeration phase of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls has commenced in Odisha, Mizoram, Sikkim, and Manipur, as announced by the Election Commission of India. This phase follows the launch of phase 3 of SIR across 16 States and three Union Territories on May 14, 2026. Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will perform house-to-house visits to distribute, collect, and verify enumeration forms, ensuring that electors can submit their filled forms either through BLOs or online.
Electors must ensure their forms reach the Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) by the deadline of June 28 to be included in the draft electoral rolls. Those unable to meet this deadline still have the option to register as new voters via Form 6 during the claims and objections period. The four States involved have over 3.67 crore electors, with Odisha having the largest electorate, followed by Mizoram, Sikkim, and Manipur.
The Election Commission has urged all eligible voters to actively engage in the SIR process and collaborate with election officials to facilitate an effective house-to-house enumeration. The initiative aims to ensure that all eligible citizens are registered while preventing the inclusion of ineligible persons, reinforcing that any Indian citizen aged 18 or older on the qualifying date is entitled to register as an elector.
