Kuku Files Confidential Papers for Up to Rs 3,500-Cr IPO, Marking a Major Step in Audiobook Market Expansion

Kuku Technologies Ltd, known for its vernacular audio platform Kuku FM and the short-video streaming app Kuku TV, has filed confidential draft documents with the Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) for an Initial Public Offering (IPO) aimed at raising up to Rs 3,000 crore. The company is reportedly targeting a valuation of approximately Rs 15,000 crore (around USD 1.8 billion). The IPO is likely to encompass both a fresh issue of shares and an offer-for-sale (OFS) by existing investors and is scheduled for launch later in the current financial year. The proceeds from the fresh share issue are intended to bolster technology and AI infrastructure, enhance content creation, and support geographic expansion.

The market sentiment towards Kuku Technologies appears positive, as indicated by the steep increase in its revenue, which surged nearly seven-fold to over Rs 1,400 crore in FY26 from approximately Rs 240 crore the previous year. The company is nearing operational profitability, which is an encouraging sign for potential investors. Additionally, the Indian short-form video and vernacular content sector is witnessing rapid growth, estimated to expand at around 60% annually. This robust market potential could further enhance the company’s valuation and appeal in the upcoming IPO.

For Indian investors, Kuku Technologies presents an intriguing opportunity to invest in a fast-growing digital content landscape. With over 10 million active paying subscribers and significant traction in vernacular audio and video content, Kuku’s platforms are well-positioned to capitalize on the increasing consumption patterns observed in India. As the company aims to expand internationally, including markets like the United States, the potential for long-term growth could be substantial. However, investors should remain cognizant of the inherent risks associated with the technology and media sectors, particularly in a rapidly evolving market environment.
