Kerala High Court Grants Extended Stay on Arrest of Kumbh Mela Viral Figure’s Husband, Farmaan Khan
The Kerala High Court has extended the stay order on the arrest of actor Mohammed Farmaan Khan while deliberating on his anticipatory bail petition related to a kidnapping case initiated by the father of his wife. The Madhya Pradesh Police opposed the bail plea, citing charges under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989, and argued that anticipatory bail should not be granted under these circumstances.
The police previously contested the jurisdiction of the Kerala High Court, asserting that such petitions must be filed in the court of the area where the alleged crime occurred. However, Khan’s representatives emphasized the necessity of moving the petition in Kerala, expressing concerns over potential threats in Madhya Pradesh amid the ongoing investigation by the National Commission for Scheduled Tribes, following allegations that the woman was a minor at the time of marriage.
The case has garnered attention, particularly with the involvement of the Madhya Pradesh High Court where the woman challenged her father’s claims regarding her age. The procedural complexities and jurisdictional arguments highlight ongoing tensions and legal intricacies in cases involving personal status and societal implications affecting marginalized communities.
