CS Urges Swift Action on High-Speed Rail Corridors as Railways Call for Government Land Acquisition for Depots

Telangana Chief Secretary K. Ramakrishna Rao has emphasized the urgency of expediting land acquisition for three high-speed rail corridors connecting Hyderabad with Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Chennai. During a review meeting on May 15, 2026, he directed officials to enhance connectivity and develop necessary amenities for these projects, highlighting the significant economic implications of the rail corridors. The detailed project report (DPR) for the Hyderabad-Pune-Mumbai corridor has been finalised, revealing a requirement for land acquisition over a stretch of 93 km in Telangana alone.

Officials from various departments, including the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority and GMR Airport, participated in the meeting, where the land requirements for the Hyderabad-Bengaluru and Hyderabad-Chennai corridors were also discussed. The Chief Secretary urged the state government to facilitate the acquisition of additional land, particularly for constructing railway depots in Kokapet and Shamshabad. This collaborative approach aims to ensure coordinated efforts in preparing project reports and executing them effectively.

The approval of these high-speed rail corridors by the Centre aligns with Telangana’s vision of economic development as outlined in the Telangana Rising 2047 initiative. This project is expected not only to enhance transportation but also to spur growth in sectors such as industry, IT, and tourism. Consequently, the Chief Secretary directed the Roads & Buildings department to collaborate closely with stakeholders to maximize the benefits of this infrastructure investment.
