Rani Kapur Claims ‘Forced Takeover’ in Sanjay Kapur Estate Dispute, Files Fresh Plea with Supreme Court
Ms. Rani Kapur has filed a plea with the Supreme Court, accusing her daughter-in-law, Ms. Priya Kapur, of attempting a “forced takeover” of family assets amid a court-monitored mediation process concerning the estate of the late industrialist Sunjay Kapur. The application, presented before Justices J.B. Pardiwala and Ujjal Bhuyan, highlights concerns over ongoing efforts by Ms. Priya Kapur and associates to assert control over key companies linked to the estate, despite a prior Supreme Court order appointing a mediator to facilitate negotiations.
The allegations assert that a board meeting for Raghuvanshi Investment Private Limited (RIPL) was convened under the guise of compliance with regulatory requirements, with the true intention being to secure control over the company’s operations and finances. Legal representatives for Ms. Rani Kapur contend that this meeting is a tactic to undermine the mediation process mandated by the Supreme Court and poses a threat to the preservation of family assets, as they fear a potential alienation of these resources during the ongoing proceedings.
Ms. Rani Kapur’s application underscores the urgency of the situation, arguing that allowing the proposed changes in management could create an irreversible scenario detrimental to her interests. The petition seeks judicial intervention to restrain Ms. Priya Kapur and other related parties from interfering with the family trust’s operations during the mediation phase. The Supreme Court had previously cautioned the involved parties against media disclosures, advocating for a resolution through amicable discussions to safeguard family interests.
