Key Catalysts to Watch: 10 Factors Shaping Tuesday’s Stock Market Moves

Indian benchmark indices faced significant selling pressure on Monday, marking a third consecutive day of declines as broad-based weakness across sectors took a toll on the markets. Notably, banking, automobile, and energy sectors were at the forefront of the slump, reflecting a sustained risk aversion among investors. The Nifty50 plummeted by 360.30 points, or 1.49%, closing at 23,815.85, while the BSE Sensex fell by 1,312.91 points or 1.70%, ending at 76,015.28. Meanwhile, the volatility index, India VIX, decreased by 10.16% to close at 18.55, indicating a temporary cooling off in market jitters.

Technical analysts are highlighting a bearish sentiment in the short-term market outlook. Rupak De from LKP Securities noted that the Nifty has experienced a consolidation breakdown on the daily chart, suggesting an increased risk of a larger bearish phase. Key support is set at 23,700, and a breach below this level could accelerate declines. In line with this, Nilesh Jain from Centrum Finverse reiterated that the index has slipped below its immediate support, indicating ongoing weaknesses, with immediate support seen at 23,800 and potential declines towards 23,550 if the weakness continues. Momentum indicators are turning negative, marking a challenging environment for bulls in the short term.

In terms of market activity, notable stocks included Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (APSEZ) and Bharti Airtel, which were among the most active in terms of turnover. The day’s trading session saw 198 stocks reaching their 52-week highs, while 27 stocks hit 52-week lows. Key stocks experiencing strong buying interest included Tata Consumer Products and Max Healthcare Institute, indicating pockets of resilience amidst broader selling pressure. Investors remain cautious, with market breadth skewed negatively; out of over 4,500 traded stocks, 3,000 experienced declines. Overall, current market sentiment appears to favor bearish positions as uncertainty persists across multiple sectors.
