Driver Seriously Injured in Suvendu’s Aide Killing Undergoes Multiple Surgeries, Remains Critical

The driver of the car targeted in the attack on BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari’s aide, Chandranath Rath, is in critical condition following multiple surgeries after sustaining bullet injuries. Buddhadeb Bera, the driver, is currently being monitored in the intensive care unit of a local hospital, where medical officials stated that his condition remains precarious despite ongoing treatment efforts aimed at stabilizing him.

The violent incident occurred on the night of May 6, 2026, in North 24 Parganas, as Chandranath Rath was ambushed by assailants on motorcycles, leading to his fatal shooting. This event marked a significant escalation in post-poll tensions within the region, prompting immediate outrage and allegations of politically-motivated violence from various factions. The attackers followed Rath’s vehicle, intercepted it near Doltala, and opened fire before escaping the scene.

The BJP has condemned the murder of Rath as a “targeted assassination,” intensifying the political unrest in West Bengal. Investigators are now seeking to apprehend the assailants who executed this brazen attack just meters from Rath’s home, underscoring the heightened atmosphere of fear and violence that has characterized the state’s political landscape in recent days.
