Historic Victory: UDF Reclaims Uduma After 39 Years in Kerala Assembly Elections 2026!
K. Neelakandan of the United Democratic Front (UDF) has made history by winning the Assembly seat from Uduma in Kasaragod, marking the first UDF victory in this constituency in 39 years. The election results, announced on May 4, revealed that Neelakandan received 78,910 votes, defeating the incumbent Left Democratic Front (LDF) candidate C.H. Kunhambu, who garnered 73,738 votes. The victory margin stood at 4,854 votes.
This election has significant implications for the political landscape in Kerala, highlighting a possible shift in voter sentiment away from the long-standing dominance of the LDF in the region. Kunhambu, who was contesting for a third term, faced a formidable challenge that ultimately resulted in his defeat. The performance of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) candidate, Manulal Meloth, who received 26,746 votes, suggests that while the NDA remains a distant contender, its presence may have influenced the overall election dynamics.
The UDF’s victory in Uduma is seen as a revitalization of its position within Kasaragod, potentially opening pathways for further electoral gains in the upcoming local and state elections. With this win, K. Neelakandan not only uplifts UDF’s status but also sets a precedent for future candidates by demonstrating that change is possible in regions perceived as LDF strongholds.
