Dhoot Transmission Soars 38% on Debut: Should Investors Hold or Buy the Dip?

Dhoot Transmission made a notable entrance on Dalal Street, with its shares debuting at a significant 38% premium to the IPO price, opening at Rs 1,193.80 on the BSE and Rs 1,200 on the NSE, compared to the issue price of Rs 871. This performance surpassed pre-listing expectations, as the grey market premium had suggested potential gains of around 30%. Analysts express optimism regarding Dhoot Transmission’s future, emphasizing its impressive revenue growth, its established dominance in the wiring harness sector, and its increasing engagement in the electric vehicle (EV) market. However, it is prudent for investors to remain vigilant about customer concentration and execution-related risks that could influence the company’s growth trajectory.

The IPO itself received robust interest, being subscribed 74.21 times overall during the subscription period. Retail investors contributed significantly with an 8.12 times subscription, while particularly strong demand from institutional investors was evidenced by a staggering 212.92 times subscription in the Qualified Institutional Buyer (QIB) category, alongside a 51.93 times subscription from Non-Institutional Investors (NII). The public issue involved a fresh issue of 1.61 crore shares valued at Rs 1,400 crore, supplemented by an offer for sale (OFS) of 1.91 crore shares, aggregating Rs 1,666.89 crore. This overwhelming response underscores the market confidence in the company’s growth potential.

The proceeds from the IPO are set to enhance Dhoot Transmission’s financial structure, with Rs 464.80 crore allocated for debt repayment and another Rs 301.77 crore aimed at injecting capital into subsidiaries to alleviate their debt burdens. Additionally, the company is planning to invest Rs 150 crore in establishing new wiring harness manufacturing facilities in Haryana and Tamil Nadu to meet the surging demand in the market. These strategic investments reflect an intention to expand production capacity and promote inorganic growth opportunities, including potential acquisitions.

Founded in 1998, Dhoot Transmission has positioned itself as a leading entity within India’s electrical and electronics automotive ecosystem, specifically focusing on wiring harnesses for both internal combustion engine and electric vehicle applications. With a commanding 41% market share in the two-wheeler and three-wheeler wiring harness market, and a remarkable 70% share for electric two-wheelers and three-wheelers by FY26, the company is well-placed for the transition towards electric mobility. Approximately 95% of its automotive product offerings are EV-focused or powertrain-neutral, allowing Dhoot Transmission to capitalize on pivotal trends such as vehicle electrification and connected mobility.
