Crude Check: Market Poised for Consolidation Amidst Supply Fluctuations

Oil prices experienced a notable rally last week, with Brent crude oil futures on the Intercontinental Exchange (ICE) closing at $88.50 per barrel, reflecting a 5.9% increase, while domestic crude oil futures traded at ₹7,810 per barrel, marking a 6.1% gain. Brent crude surpassed the $86 resistance level early in the week but encountered a ceiling at $91, which has proven to be a significant barrier for upward movement in the short term. On the other hand, the support levels are established at $86 and $83, indicating a potential consolidation phase between $83 and $91.

The current price dynamics are influenced by various factors, including ongoing geopolitical tensions, particularly in oil-producing regions, which have been contributing to market volatility. Additionally, recent changes in global supply and demand dynamics have played a crucial role. A combination of recovery in post-pandemic demand as well as production cuts from key OPEC+ members continues to exert upward pressure on prices. However, concerns over potential economic slowdowns due to interest rate hikes in major economies could temper further gains in the near future.

Looking ahead, the short-term outlook for traders and investors is characterized by potential sideways movement given the established support and resistance levels. With crude oil futures likely oscillating between ₹7,400 and ₹8,000, traders are advised to remain cautious. A decisive breakout above ₹8,000 could propel future rallies to ₹8,600; conversely, a breach of the ₹7,400 support might trigger declines to ₹7,000. Consequently, it may be prudent for participants to adopt a wait-and-see approach until clearer directional cues emerge from the market.
