Ananya Birla’s Svatantra Microfin, India’s 2nd Largest NBFC-MFI, Announces IPO Filing
Mumbai-based Svatantra Microfin, recognized as India’s second-largest NBFC-MFI by microfinance assets under management (AUM), has officially filed its Draft Red Herring Prospectus (DRHP) with the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI). The planned IPO will consist of a fresh issue of INR 1,500 crore and an Offer for Sale of an additional INR 1,500 crore from selling shareholders. Moreover, the company may explore a pre-IPO placement of up to INR 300 crore, which could potentially adjust the size of the fresh issue. This offering highlights the company’s strategic positioning in the rapidly expanding microfinance sector, focusing on underserved rural and semi-urban communities.
The financial performance of Svatantra Microfin showcases a robust growth trajectory, with consolidated revenue from operations forecasted to grow significantly over the next couple of years. Between FY24 and FY26, the revenue is expected to rise at a CAGR of 30.28%, while profit after tax is projected to surge from INR 345.14 crore in FY24 to INR 649.40 crore in FY26. The company’s asset quality remains industry-leading with a Gross Stage 3 ratio of 1.37%, indicating strong management of non-performing assets despite challenges in the sector. Investor sentiment in the grey market around this IPO has been cautiously optimistic, reflecting confidence in the company’s operational framework and market potential.
For Indian investors, the Svatantra Microfin IPO represents a noteworthy opportunity, as it combines a strong market presence with a commitment to financial inclusion. The company’s diversified secured dual-engine model allows it to mitigate risks associated with the microfinance sector, particularly in terms of borrowing costs and asset quality. However, investors should also be aware of the inherent risks associated with microfinance, such as borrower vulnerability and regulatory compliance. Overall, Svatantra Microfin emerges as a compelling listing candidate with a balanced approach towards growth and sustainability in India’s evolving financial landscape.
