India’s Electronics Exports Soar 11-Fold to ₹4.24 Lakh Crore as Women’s Workforce Approaches 30% Milestone

India’s electronics exports have surged over 11-fold to ₹4.24 lakh crore in FY 2025-26, establishing the nation as the world’s second-largest mobile phone manufacturer. The report highlights a dramatic shift in export value, with mobile phones evolving from the 153rd-largest export item in FY 2014-15 to India’s largest export product in FY 2025-26. Notably, the country’s digital economy now accounts for approximately 14% of GDP, aided by flagship initiatives like the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme and the India Semiconductor Mission, which have been crucial in bolstering domestic manufacturing capabilities.

This significant growth has direct implications for the common citizen and market dynamics. For the general populace, the expansion of the electronics sector means job creation and greater employment opportunities, with 12 lakh jobs generated, a substantial portion of which are held by women. Additionally, increased competitiveness in the market could lead to lower prices for electronic goods. The affordability of digital services has improved appreciably, as evidenced by a more than fourfold increase in internet subscribers and a substantial drop in wireless data costs—from ₹308 per GB in 2014 to just ₹7.51 per GB in 2026. Enhanced digital infrastructure, such as expanded 5G services across 99.9% of districts, further promotes economic inclusivity.

Looking forward, the long-term outlook appears encouraging, with the Indian government and RBI likely to continue supporting initiatives that stimulate growth in the digital and electronics sectors. The focus will remain on fostering conditions conducive to manufacturing, export, and innovation, aiming for further integration into global supply chains. As India positions itself as a technological hub, sustaining momentum in employment creation and investment in digital infrastructure will be essential. Stakeholders should monitor forthcoming policy measures that could catalyze continued growth in this sector.
