China Sees Significant Surge in Imports of Engineering Goods, Textiles, and Toys.

India’s imports from China have surged significantly in the fiscal year 2025-26, with total imports reaching $131.63 billion, accounting for nearly 17% of the country’s total imports. Notably, imports of engineering goods saw an 18.6% increase, amounting to $75.82 billion, followed by textiles rising 22.5% to $4.46 billion, and toys growing 20.7% to $350 million. The government has emphasized that this import increase covers various critical sectors, including raw materials essential for clean energy technologies and semiconductors, while it also acknowledged concerns regarding the impact of low-cost Chinese goods on local manufacturers, especially in MSME hubs across Tamil Nadu.
