INROAD and Rubber Board Unveil Educational Video Series to Empower Natural Rubber Growers

The iSPEED (INROAD Skilling and Production Efficiency Enhancement Drive) initiative, with a financial backing of ₹150 crores, has commenced as a significant phase following the completion of rubber plantation activities under Project INROAD in Northeast India. This program aims to enhance the productivity and quality of natural rubber by focusing on skill development among approximately three lakh rubber growers. Modern processing infrastructure will be established, including rubber sheeting machines and scientifically designed smokehouses, to elevate the quality and value of natural rubber output. In conjunction with this, a series of educational videos addressing five key processing techniques has been launched to facilitate effective training across diverse linguistic backgrounds, including Assamese, Bengali, Hindi, and Malayalam.

The implications of this initiative for common citizens and the market are twofold. Firstly, by enhancing the skill sets of rubber growers, the initiative promises to increase productivity, enabling farmers to achieve better returns on their investments. Secondly, improved quality standards can position Indian natural rubber more competitively in global markets, potentially leading to increased exports and job creation in the sector. This enhanced productivity and market positioning may result in more sustainable earnings for farmers, which in turn could stimulate local economies in the Northeast region.

Looking ahead, the long-term outlook associated with the iSPEED initiative is optimistic as it seeks to establish a stronger natural rubber value chain through continuous skill enhancement and infrastructure development. The government, alongside the Rubber Board and industry stakeholders, is expected to monitor the effectiveness of training and infrastructure investments while exploring additional partnerships to support sustainable development in the sector. Future iterations of this program may include further technological advancements and broader integration with digital tools to bolster operational efficiencies, ensuring that the benefits are not only immediate but also lasting and comprehensive.
