GIC Restructures Senior Investment Leadership with Appointment of Two Deputy Group CIOs Amid Global Market Dynamics.
Singapore’s sovereign wealth fund GIC has undergone a strategic leadership reshuffle aimed at strengthening its investment capabilities across multiple asset classes. Among the key appointments, Choo Yong Cheen has been elevated to the role of deputy group chief investment officer (DGCIO), while retaining his position as chief investment officer for Private Equity. This dual role positions him to expand his oversight on GIC’s private market investments, which encompass critical segments such as real estate, infrastructure, and innovative non-traditional investment opportunities. This move demonstrates GIC’s commitment to a more integrated approach within its private market strategy.
Additionally, Liew Tzu Mi has been promoted to DGCIO from her prior role as CIO for Fixed Income & Multi Asset (FIMA). Liew will continue to lead the Portfolio Execution & Solutions Group during this transition, but will step aside from her CIO responsibilities within FIMA. This arrangement is indicative of GIC’s focus on consolidating leadership roles while enhancing the expertise within its investment operations. Meanwhile, Liang Jiajie, formerly the deputy CIO for FIMA, has been appointed as the new CIO for that business, further embedding leadership continuity within GIC’s operational framework.
The updated leadership structure highlights GIC’s commitment to aligning its investment strategies under a unified global strategy. With all chief investment officers reporting directly to the group chief investment officer, GIC aims to ensure coherence in its investment approach across various asset classes. Established in 1981, GIC’s substantial global presence—with a workforce of over 2,500 and investments in more than 40 countries—positions it advantageously to capitalize on emerging opportunities in a rapidly changing investment landscape.
